The last stage I still wasn't feeling overly great. It has been a while since I last raced more than 4 days in a row and that extra day took a lot of effort to get through.
After a relaxing and refreshing 9 km neutral zone through the whole city of Niort, we were off to another fast start. Luckily the break formed quickly and we had Sylvain in it so we could relax a bit. Still we tried to keep as close together as possible as a team because you just never know what can happen.
The fight for the yellow was still on and after 40 km attacks came numerous in the peloton, with many teams getting involved and trying to show their colours as much as possible on this last day.
Just as many teams were suddenly interested in bringing the breakaway back and with more than 50km to go "peloton groupe" was being heard in the teamcars through the race radios.
This wasn't the ideal situation for us as we had been in a good position with a fast man presented upfront.
Somehow we managed to control the onslaught of attacks and I was working at the front again for some time to bring a large and dangerous group back.
From then on I was hanging at the back and getting dragged to the finish by a speedy peloton.
Although I've had some bad luck the first day, it was a good Tour for me, as I was represented in the break once and felt super strong helping my teammates achieve some good results.
It was a good preparation for what's coming next, because I have some big news! You'll have to wait just a little bit longer to hear what the news are though...
Until next time!
